Get Organized in GO Month!
Happy New Year! How is 2025 looking for you so far? Did you know that January is Get Organized & Be Productive (GO) Month? To me, that says there’s no better time to consult an organizing or productivity professional!
Clutter and disorganization can drain your energy and contribute to unwanted stress, frustration, and anxiety. Are you ready to start the new year off right by getting organized and increasing productivity? Here are some helpful strategies:
There are three basic steps to organizing.
Set as specific a goal as possible for a space.
Make decisions about every item in that space as to keeping it or letting it go.
Find homes for all the things you have decided to keep.
When you are considering whether or not to keep something, ask these questions:
Do you love it?
Do you need it?
Could you easily replace it if you ever realize that you do need it?
If this thing were covered in mold, would you go to the effort of cleaning it or would you throw it out?
And remember, getting organized is a bit like starting a new workout program. You need to start with lighter weights and build up muscle before trying out bigger weights. When we’re motivated, it is so easy to set big goals like “I will reorganize my entire closet in the next hour.” But in an hour when your bedroom is covered in clothing and you’ve only just begun to sort, you can quickly feel overwhelmed, deflated and even depressed. So start small. Organize your sock drawer, a junk drawer, the cleaning supplies under your kitchen sink. Watch your organizing muscles get stronger as you exercise them!
As a member of the National Association of Productivity & Organizing Professionals (NAPO), I work to improve my clients’ lives by helping them create environments that support productivity, general health, and well-being. You may feel a bit hesitant about hiring someone to work with in what can be a very personal process, but working with a professional organizer is much like working and sharing personal information with an accountant, personal trainer, doctor, or other service provider.
Don’t forget that we offer free phone consultations! If you want to talk through your organizing goals or your struggles with a particular room or situation, please reach out to us, whether now in GO Month or any time of the year!
